Rebeca is adopted by the Buendi family. Rebeca infects the town with an insomnia that causes loss of memory. Rebeca seems to orphan herself from society and the Buendia family when, after her husband Jose Arcadio's death, she becomes a hermit, never seen outside her dilapidated home.
